The secret to training for speed

Trying to move fast does not always grant you improved speed.

Much of my time working with athletes is based around teaching them control of small movements.

Oftentimes, speed is hiding the need for something else.

When you see abrupt high speed movements during simple athletic drills, it almost always represents a coordination and control problem.

The brain doesn't own a map for the movement so it appears ratcheted in nature.

Learning to move slowly with precision and control teaches your brain that it has options.

Most people move at the same speed with all of their athletic drills because they simply are not able to differentiate between speeds.

To take the brakes off ones' performance, learn what it is to move slowly, precisely and controlled.

This skill will grant you speed!
