What does sports neurology look like?

performance Oct 25, 2016

This past weekend we spent 4 days in NYC with Zhealth Performance for their S-Phase certification course. It was unbelievable! Check out the video compilation we put together of us with Zhealth Master Trainers, Matt Bush and Mike Golden.

What is Zhealth?

Zhealth Performance is an educational company teaching a brain-based approach to fitness. Their curriculum teaches, very systematically, how to use neurological concepts to impact performance.

What is S-Phase?

S-phase stands for sport, skill, or strategy. We learned the fundamentals of what all athletes must be able to do and we learned a bunch of drills to to meet the skills needed by all athletes.

The idea is that all athletes need to be able to see well, balance well, move well, and integrate well.

It's hard to pinpoint the single most important aspect of Zhealth Performance but if we had to pick one, it would be the vision training. We learned how to isolate visual weaknesses and integrate training drills into sport specific positions to prepare for the visual demands of every athlete.

What did we learn?

  1. How to identify visual weaknesses and drills for athletes to strengthen their visual field.
  2. Advanced vestibular (balance) drills and how to integrate these with sport-specific positions
  3. Achieving a high level of performance comes down to earning your brain's trust, which takes deliberate practice.
  4. Visualization and behavioral change for accelerated results
  5. Linear speed mechanics
  6. A neurological approach to plyometrics, including:

Sprint Technique

Cutting Technique

Deceleration Technique

Jumping and Landing Technique

And so much more...

Did you know that 80% of injuries occur when an athlete is changing directions or stopping?

This fact makes the work we focused on this weekend crucial to every single individual who refuses to stop moving.

Everybody is an Athlete!

We are so pumped to be sharing some of our Zhealth training with you this weekend at our Open House!

We hope to see you there.
