Understanding chronic pain from a neurological perspective

education pain Feb 21, 2017

The fastest way to create chronic pain is to see 4 or 5 professionals that are unable to help you.

It sounds strange, I know!

This is research verified too.

This is neurology. This is how the brain works!

Our experiences and how we perceive things plays a very important roll in our health and the outcome of getting help.

When you are looking for advice and you see multiple health professionals that are NOT able to help you with your issues, your brain begins to learn and predict that no intervention is going to help because the last one failed.

You actually build strong neuronal connections to support this unconscious behavior or thought process.

Each time you fail, you support what your brain already predicted.

The connections become stronger and your pain becomes chronic.

You continue to bounce around getting opinions and losing hope.

Unfortunately, this sounds like many people's experience within mainstream healthcare.

It's a viscous cycle, a brilliant business model, and, in my opinion, it's an abusive one that takes advantage of people who simply don't understand their body and health.

They're not supposed to!

Educating the person is our job as health and fitness professionals.

So, beware of this concept.

Step outside of the cultural norm.

At TMP, we wear a lot of hats on purpose because we understand that health is a multifaceted picture, different for each individual.

Before you use up all your chances, ask yourself, "did I really find the right people to help me yet?" Help is available but you must change the way you think and try on something new!
