Training alternatives for an athlete with an overactive visual system

Watch closely!

There is so much happening.

And, it was breakthrough for this young lacrosse player!

We are taking advantage of his excellent auditory mapping skills to improve his balance, coordination and cognitive focus.

And then using the visual system to correct poor movement.

With young athletes that have different attention and learning challenges, it is common for me to find that they have an overactive visual system (I'm hugely simplifying the language) that makes it hard to focus on individual tasks or visual targets.

It often presents as eyes that appear to dart around a lot.

And, movement quickly falls apart!

For these kids, it can feel nearly impossible to get anything done.

And it's very frustrating for them and you.

The drill that you are watching is customized for the athletes brain.

His eyes are closed.

He points with his left hand to where he thinks the sound is coming from BUT on the opposite side!

This forces him to inhibit the reflexive action of pointing to the sound.

At the same time he lunges with the left leg.

I'm driving more left side coordination and right brain activity for a reason.

Accuracy is critical.

And, I'm a stickler for perfection.

He deserves that from me.

The neurology is deep.

All Im going to say is that training like this is transformational for the guy!

So exciting to watch this unfold!

This folks, is what we mean when we say "Brain-Based Fitness."

The results are inspirational.
