The psoas is not as cool as people say it is

The Psoas!

There are actually entire books written on it.

No joke.

There is some interesting information regarding this popular muscle for sure.

But, the educator in me needs to make sure that people don't get distracted by the mysterious explanations of the Psoas.

It doesn't get to be better than any other muscle!

So, here's what you need to know about it. The Psoas:

  • Flexes and laterally flexes the trunk ipsilaterally
  • Rotates the trunk contralaterally
  • Flexes and externally rotates the thigh, and
  • Tilts the pelvis anteriorly

That's a lot of movements!

And, it needs to be able to do any combination of those things at the same time while it's in different lengths and positions.

Now, contrary to some people's theories, when you have a dysfunctional psoas, it doesn't mean that you have a serious emotional problem that can only be delt with by someone's special hands and their psychological coaching.

It means you have a weak-ass Psoas!

And, here's the big tip - if you constantly find a dysfunctional psoas muscle via muscle testing or any assessment process you use, and nothing is fixing it, it's likely that you are dealing with a serious breathing dysfunction, visceral issue (organ) or brain stem issue (medulla).

Yes that's right!

Even the Psoas takes its orders from higher order systems!

So let's take the mystery out of the Psoas.

Understand it's an important muscle and if your efforts to strengthen it are failing, first think about breathing and internal health to support it!

Ok thanks... now I feel better.
