The Burdenko Method: The greatest system of plyometrics in the world

16 years ago I met a mentor who changed my life, Thomas Barbeau.

He introduced me to his mentor (Dr. Igor Burdenko) and all of a sudden I found myself in the middle of what we call the "essence of exercise" - a somewhat lost training art called, The Burdenko Method.

So simple, yet so complicated it was out of reach of those who couldn't live it.

Within the system, a special tool called Freedom of Movement.

An expression of the highest movement intelligence I have ever seen.

And, what I personally consider the greatest system of plyometrics in the world.

Seemingly simple to those who haven't tried and frustrating to the bone for those who do.

I've seen athletes of all levels walk away from its challenges.

I've also seen long athletic careers develop around its amazing framework.

It's not about the 'speed' or the 'strength.'

It's about competency, adaptation and options:

  • Ballistic in nature
  • Multi-directional
  • Varied speeds
  • Sequencing of complex movement
  • Choreography
  • Memory recall
  • Multi-tasking
  • Timing
  • Rhythm

Freedom of movement is derived from Russian physical education with influences from contemporary dance, martial arts and gymnastics.

One simple idea - if we want movement options we must cross into multiple disciplines to obtain them.

The video above is just a beginning layer and sneak peak introduction that I recently gave to an athlete.
