Can you really reset the nervous system?

The nervous system does not have a reset button!

The word reset is being used a lot within movement education and it’s very misleading. Especially because people get an image in their mind of “resetting” correlating to all their pains and issues instantly disappearing.

Often times the word “reset” is thrown around by people to describe neurology that they don’t fully understand. I’m not saying you have to understand it and i don’t necessarily see a problem with using the word when trying to educate your clients and simplify things (totally get it). But it’s important for people to know, especially professionals, that we are not resetting anyone’s nervous system or motor control. Even when you do cool tricks like the ones seen on instagram.

When a person experiences a result there is a very specific reason why. If you could reset the nervous system I’d be resetting the heck out of people!! Instead, we have to put in the work!
